Tashkent Zoo — Wildlife, Bears and Butterfly House in Uzbekistan

Tashkent Zoo

Tashkent Zoo

Tashkent Zoo will celebrate its 100th anniversary next year! The new zoo with a vast green space of 21.5 hectares opened in 1997 in the Yunusabad district and neighbours the Botanical Garden. It is home to 373 species of animals.

Explore the Exhibitions:

- Terrarium — monitor lizards, iguanas, crocodiles, snakes

- Exotic birds — ostriches, parrots of various colours, birds of prey sakers and golden eagles. A separate section is dedicated to waterfowl — swans and night herons

- Primates — gibbons, macaques and orangutans have climbing ropes, hammocks for rest, swings and soft toys here; the floor is covered with carpets, and in the corner stand little houses on stilts for when they tire of contact with visitors

- Mammals — kangaroos, elephants and deer, yaks and giraffes, hippopotamuses swimming in pools, as well as adorable hedgehogs and guinea pigs

- Aquarium of 100 cubic metres filled with sea water, where fish and sea turtles splash. For particularly devoted fans of underwater jungles, such as the tiger perch, a separate aquarium of 200 cubic metres of fresh water is maintained. The total exhibition numbers 165 aquatic animals

- Predators — the main favourites of the local public. Who will you not encounter here: Canadian wolves, lions, Bengal tigers, foxes. Tashkent residents have an extraordinary tenderness for bears and their "star" representative named Zuzu. In his enclosure an extraordinary event occurred — a little girl fell, having tumbled from a 5-metre height. The child was in a panic and could not get up; bystanders watched in horror as the bear approached. Zuzu's behaviour amazed everyone — he simply sniffed the girl and immediately retreated to his closed house. The news spread across all social media and gifted Zuzu thousands of devoted admirers

- Butterfly House

Zoos not infrequently make a depressing impression — but that is precisely not the emotion you will experience from visiting the Tashkent one. The enclosures for the animals are spacious and close to their natural habitat, adapted to the climatic and seasonal weather conditions and maintained in impeccable cleanliness.

The contact zoo teaches children to communicate with small animals and birds, the rules of caring for them and feeding — special packages with food beneficial for the pets are sold.

The territory is pleasant for open-air walks — it is decorated with fountains and artificial ponds with waterfalls and suspension bridges. You can travel around the zoo on small steam locomotives or electric cars; have a bite to eat in the café, and also buy ice cream and soft drinks at one of the trading points. Young visitors will be delighted by the children's playground, carousels by the pond and catamarans.
